| 1. Why this insistence on direct
democracy?
We have depended too long on
merely representative democracy, a system where people after electing
their representatives are no more in control until yet another election
comes around. Hence corruption, lack of adequate accountability, etc. We
need a system where, in addition to representative democracy, we have also
provision for direct, ongoing control by people. People need to directly
be in governance on a day to day basis. |

3. What is the main goal/objective of
NCN?
The main goal of NCN is to promote direct democracy and
governance by people through federations at various levels of
neighbourhood parliaments of about 30 families each. Through these
networks it intends to give the people at the base an ongoing say in the
way the world is run. See for more details, "The Dream of A New World
Governance by People". |

4. What exactly is your approach to promote direct
democracy and governance by people?
We believe forums where people come together and talk are
essential if people are to decide together on things that affect them and
thus take charge and govern. Direct democracy will not be possible unless
they have access to parliaments where things are deliberated and
legislated. Hence we propose parliaments of about thirty neighbouring
families each. These neighbourhood parliaments take charge of their
neighbourhood. |

encouraging pioneering initiatives and the like. It creates chapters of
NCN Friends to help promote the idea in the various districts, states and
nations. It also creates a district level pilot model in Kanyakumari
District in South India. |
